GAR Foundation is thrilled to celebrate its 13th annual Student Art Show, highlighting the work of 26 undergraduate students from The School of Art at Kent State University and The University of Akron’s Myers School of Art, on display at the historic Andrew Jackson House.
The 2023 curated exhibit seeks to provide artists from both universities with an opportunity to experience the practice of applying to an exhibition and having their pieces displayed in a professional setting. The students’ vision in their work reflects the strength of their respective art programs and the vitality of emerging arts in the region.
Karl Anderson, the curator this year, co-founded and ran FORUM artspace for nine years, working as an artist assistant, art handler, art writer, and curator at institutions such as the Transformer Station, MoCA Cleveland, SPACES and more. Currently enrolled in Kent State University’s Sculpture and Expanded Media Graduate Program, Anderson continues to show his work in the region, most recently at Worthington Yards Text Messages exhibition.
“One of the best parts about student exhibitions is seeing the breadth of ideas and talent as they mature and grow,” Anderson states. “The 2023 GAR Student Art Show is no exception, showcasing an array of media, styles, and concepts.”
The exhibit showcases student artwork throughout the building of the Andrew Jackson House. Small-group or single visitors are welcome to view the artwork on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 4pm. The show will close on May 5th.
“We’re honored to host such beautiful works that showcase the Northeast Ohio student community,” states Kirstin Toth from GAR Foundation. “Our partnership with the universities is one we’re incredibly proud to continue. We look forward to welcoming the visitors to our offices to view and support the students of our community.”
