AKRON, Ohio (May 7, 2019) —GAR Foundation announced today $350,000 in funding to 35 teams of educators through its annual Educator Initiative Grant (EIG) program. The EIG program offers grants to teams of K-12 educators in Summit County’s public and private schools who present classroom innovations that will drive student success.
“We saw an influx of requests around social-emotional learning, entrepreneurship, and experiential learning,” said Kirstin Toth, senior vice president of GAR Foundation. “We’re thrilled to support a variety of innovative projects throughout Summit County that prepare students for college and career.”
Educators from Manchester High School were awarded funding for The Panther Shop. This program will immerse students with special educational needs in real-world experiences to create and operate a school store. Students will gain transferable science, math, language, and digital skills to become career ready.
Other notable grants include $15,000 to North High School for an urban agriculture project; $10,000 to Immaculate Heart of Mary School for the Superhero Within, a school-wide social-emotional learning initiative; and $5,000 to Lakeview Intermediate School for a project-based learning program that merges Science with English Language Arts.
Summit County educators are encouraged to attend GAR Foundation’s Annual Educator Conference on October 3, 2019. The free conference brings together K-12 educators to uplift innovative strategies for student engagement and success. Information for the conference is available on the GAR website.
