GAR Foundation awards $150,000 to the Akron Summit County COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund
GAR Foundation announced today an emergency grant in the amount of $150,000 to support crisis relief efforts providing food, shelter, and other basic needs during the pandemic crisis.
The grant from GAR to United Way of Summit County will support the Akron Summit County COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund (“The Emergency Fund”), a community fund which operates jointly with United Way of Summit County, The City of Akron, Summit County, Summit County Public Health, Akron Public Schools, Akron Canton Foodbank, and Summit County Department of Jobs and Family Services. The Emergency Fund proactively directs funds to address immediate needs in the community.
Those who wish to support the Emergency Fund can donate on the United Way of Summit County website here.
Understanding the Crisis
GAR continues to work closely with our partners to understand the needs of the nonprofit sector during this challenging time. We know that the most immediate needs are the kinds of emergency basic needs of families and individuals being addressed through The Emergency Fund. We expect that this crisis and its effects will evolve over time, and we will continue to listen, learn, respond, and adapt accordingly.
We are committed to supporting the nonprofit sector by providing resources as we learn about them. We invite you to share your insight through our online platform. Have a question for us about GAR’s programming? Send us an email to [email protected] or you can email our program staff directly here.
