The Conservancy for Cuygahoga Valley National Park recently hosted Ohio’s first-ever Latino Conservation Week to engage the Latino community in the outdoors and create awareness around conservation. The event is part of the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to make the park more welcoming to minority populations. GAR Foundation supported the CVNP’s diversity and inclusion outreach and programming efforts with a $75,000 grant in 2018.

Despite being the fastest growing demographic in the United States, the Latinx community are often underrepresented in visiting public lands. The National Park Service estimates only about one in 10 of its visitors is Latino.
