Structuring your Board for Success

In today’s economic and social environment, nonprofits are facing daunting challenges, as well as unprecedented opportunities, to innovate and serve. The key to the board’s success in leading, shaping and supporting the organization is effective board leadership. An effective working relationship between the board and staff is absolutely essential. This small, hands-on workshop will address the role of board leaders in guiding and shaping a board to advance the organization to achieve its full potential. This seminar is specifically targeted to nonprofit board officers, committee chairs and chief executives.

Topics include:

  • The role of the board
  • Best practices in governance (statement of expectations, accountability, board succession plan)
  • Meeting management – what makes a good meeting; bad meeting
  • Board communications – dashboards & consent agenda
  • Succession Plan for Board Chair & board leaders

 

Who should attend: This workshop is specifically for nonprofit chief executives to attend with their board officers and / or committee chairs. Registration is limited to two per organization.

About the presenter:

Elizabeth Hosler Voudouris, Executive Vice President, BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence

Elizabeth Hosler Voudouris has overall strategic and operational responsibility for BVU’s Nonprofit Consulting Center, develops and implements the foundation fundraising strategy and oversees the communications strategy.   In addition, Elizabeth led the development of BVU’s current strategic plan, co-facilitated the merger between BVU and The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, and is responsible for developing and launching new programs to serve nonprofits.  She attends all board and executive committee meetings and supports board committees including Governance and Community Relations.   Elizabeth was part of BVU’s founding team in 1993.  She has held responsibility in every facet of the organization – from business consulting, member services, fund development, serving as Interim President & CEO and now Executive Vice President
